- What we do (and what we don't)
- Platform-only role
We provide a platform that helps Customers discover and connect with Professionals. We are not a party to any contract formed between a Customer and a Professional.
- No employment/agency
Professionals are not our employees, agents, or subcontractors.
- No guarantee
We do not guarantee suitability, availability, qualifications, insurance, background checks (including DBS or equivalent), pricing, or outcomes. Profile indicators for qualifications, insurance, or background checks reflect Professional self-declarations and/or uploads, not independent verification by Just Starting Out. You are responsible for your own due diligence and agreements.
- Platform-only role
- Professional registration and obligations
- Accuracy
Professionals must provide accurate, up-to-date information and must not misrepresent identity, experience, pricing, availability, qualifications, insurance status, or background checks (including DBS or equivalent).
- Regulated work
If your services require licences/authorisations, you must hold them and comply with applicable law.
- Insurance responsibility
Professionals are responsible for determining what insurance is appropriate/required for their services (for example public liability insurance, where applicable) and for maintaining such insurance in force. If you state or imply you are insured, that statement must be true and current.
- Self-declared documents and checks
Professionals may upload or declare qualifications, insurance evidence, and background checks (including DBS or equivalent) on their profile. By uploading, declaring, or confirming such documents (including via any confirmation checkbox on the Platform), you warrant that the document is genuine, current, correctly attributed to your business or name, and (where relevant for that check type) displays no cautions or convictions as required. We do not independently verify the authenticity, completeness, or ongoing validity of these documents. False or misleading declarations are a breach of these Terms and may result in suspension or termination under Section 14.
- Accuracy
- Subscriptions, fees and payment (Professionals)
- Subscriptions
Professionals pay a recurring subscription fee for paid features and/or to keep a listing active. Customers are not charged by us for browsing/searching.
- Auto-renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each Billing Period unless cancelled. You authorise us (and our payment providers) to charge your chosen payment method for each renewal.
- Pricing changes
We may change Subscription prices for future Billing Periods. We will give reasonable notice before changes take effect (see Section 16).
- Failed payments
If a payment fails, we may retry. If unpaid, we may restrict/downgrade/suspend paid features (including reducing visibility or restricting contact visibility) until payment is received.
- Payment providers
Payments may be processed by third parties (e.g., Stripe). Their terms may also apply.
- Taxes
Professionals are responsible for their own taxes and compliance.
- Subscriptions
- Cancellation, refunds and credits
- Cancelling
You can cancel your Subscription via Subscription settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current Billing Period, unless stated otherwise at the time of cancellation.
- Refunds
Subscription fees are non-refundable, except where required by law.
- Termination for breach
If we suspend/terminate your account for breach, unused time is not refundable except where required by law.
- Service credits
If we materially fail to provide the paid Subscription service for an extended period, we may (at our discretion) provide a credit.
- Cancelling
- 14-day cooling-off period (consumers only)
- If you are a consumer (not mainly using the Subscription for business purposes), you have the right to cancel your Subscription within 14 days of subscribing without giving any reason.
- To cancel within the cooling-off period, use Subscription settings.
- If you request immediate access to Subscription features during the cooling-off period and then cancel within 14 days, you may be charged a pro-rata amount for the service provided up to cancellation, as permitted by law.
- This does not affect any statutory rights that cannot be excluded.
- Safety, safeguarding and civil conduct
- All users must comply with our Safeguarding Policy and Civil Working Policy.
- If immediate danger or a crime is in progress, contact emergency services first (999 in the UK), then notify us.
- Reviews
- Reviews must be truthful, based on real experiences, and must not contain abuse, threats, hate, harassment, or private personal information. We may moderate/remove reviews for policy breaches, legal risk, or safety reasons.
- User Content
- Your responsibility
You are responsible for User Content you post/upload.
- Licence
You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt, publish, display and distribute your User Content as needed to operate, improve and promote the Service.
- Monitoring and removal
We reserve the right, but do not have the obligation, to monitor, edit, restrict, or remove User Content. We may do so at our discretion and without notice where appropriate, including where we reasonably believe content breaches these Terms/policies, is unlawful, or creates safety or legal risk.
- Your responsibility
- Prohibited use (including no-circumvention / no diversion)
- You must not use the Service to:
- break the law or encourage illegal activity;
- harass, stalk, exploit, intimidate, defraud, or harm others;
- impersonate others or misrepresent your identity;
- upload malware/spam or attempt to disrupt the Platform;
- scrape/harvest data or contact details without permission.
- No-circumvention / no diversion
You must not use the Platform primarily to undermine the Platform's intended subscription model, including by soliciting users to move to a competing service or by using the Platform to obtain leads and then encouraging Customers to engage elsewhere specifically to avoid paying for access to Platform benefits.
(For clarity: we do not control how Customers pay Professionals for work; this clause is about misuse of the Platform and diversion tactics, not normal offline service delivery.)
- You must not use the Service to:
- Suspension, termination and appeals
- We may restrict, suspend or terminate access immediately where we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms or our policies, or where needed for safety, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.
- If you cancel a Subscription, paid access may continue until the end of the current Billing Period; if we suspend/terminate for breach, access may end immediately.
- Appeals and complaints
If you believe we removed content, restricted features, or suspended/removed your account wrongly, you may request a review by following our Complaints & Reporting Procedure.
- Third-party links
- We are not responsible for third-party sites/services linked from the Platform.
- Availability and changes
- The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". We may change, suspend or discontinue parts of the Service.
- Notice of updates
We may update these Terms and/or incorporated policies from time to time. Notice may be provided by:
- a banner or notice on the Platform,
- an email to your registered email address, and/or
- updating the Effective date and Version at the top of the relevant document.
- If changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify users.
- Liability
- Nothing limits liability for death/personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or liability that cannot be excluded by law.
- We are not responsible for acts/omissions of Professionals or Customers or disputes between them.
- Caps (to the extent permitted by law)
- If you are a Professional: our total liability is limited to the Subscription fees you paid in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim (or if less, the total paid).
- If you are a Customer (or paid us nothing): our total liability is limited to £100 per claim.
- We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses (loss of profits, business, goodwill, data, opportunities).
- Indemnity (business users)
- If you use the Service in a business capacity, you agree to indemnify us against losses arising from your User Content, your breach of these Terms/policies, or your dealings with other users.
- Privacy and cookies
- Use of the Platform is governed by our Privacy Policy and Cookies Policy.
- General legal terms
- No third-party rights under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.
- Severability, no waiver, and assignment apply.
- Force majeure
We are not liable for failures caused by events outside our reasonable control.
- Governing law
- These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
- Open Government Licence
- Where we include public sector information, it is licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
